The Midnight Sun Hotel first opened in 1974, and has been profitably owned and operated by the original proprietary family for over 30 years.

The original Klondike Gold Rush era building was consumed by fire in 1981. The current Main Building was built to resemble the original, and opened in 1984.

Historically, the Hotel has been operated on a seasonal basis, opening in May and closing in September/October each calendar year.
